ZSNES is a SNES games emulator for PC (also known as the Super Nintendo emulator or Super Nintendo Entertainment System) that runs on Microsoft® Windows®, DOS®, Linux, FreeBSD, MAC® OS X® (x86) and Microsoft® Xbox® (unofficial).
It is a free software that helps you to play classic games that were running on the old Super Nintendo (SNES) game console (a 16-bit video game console that was very popular and was sold in nearly 50 million copies worldwide). It has a lot of features (e.g. speed options, fast-forward function, image upscaling, multiplayer gameplay using a TCP/IP network, use of cheats, save states support, movie recording etc.) that are best described in ZSNES Documentation ( available as a HTML or TXT file) found in "docs" folder (after you extract the content of ZSNES archive). To be able to play older games that were available on ROM cartridge you need ROMs or ROM images with them.
Important: Due to legal issues, ZSNES does not provide such files and in most countries, it is illegal to create copies of such games.
Trademark Note 1: Microsoft®, Windows® and other product names are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.
Trademark Note 2: Mac and OS X are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.
Please note: If ZSNES is not working for you, the authors, recommends you other SNES emulators such as Snes9x, SNEeSe, Super Sleuth, OpenEmu, higan, no$sns, SNesoid or bsne. You can actually find the entire list of them on WikiPedia here - section "Super Nintendo Entertainment System". Also, make sure that you read the entire documentation of ZSNES that will explain you all features and GUI (software interface) options.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a ZSNES review. Although, the program itself is completely free (under the terms of GNU General Public License Version 2) none of the FossHub members own a legal ROM cartridge or ROM image with a popular game so, we are unable to test this emulator with an older game.
ZSNES can emulate older games such as the entire list of Super Nintendo Entertainment System games here on WikiPedia.
