Description
Libjpeg-Turbo is an open-source software library that provides fast and efficient handling of JPEG image files.
It is designed to be a drop-in replacement for the original libjpeg library, offering significant speed improvements without sacrificing image quality. It also offers various customization options that allow users to tailor the library's behavior to their specific needs, like included options for adjusting the compression quality and controlling the amount of memory used during compression and decompression.
It uses SIMD instructions to speed up baseline and progressive JPEG compression and decompression on systems with common CPU architectures. It implements both the traditional libjpeg API and the more straightforward TurboJPEG API. It is covered by three compatible BSD-style open source licenses.
Libjpeg-Turbo is a software library for encoding and decoding JPEG images. Its source code is published on GitHub.
Libjpeg-Turbo Features
- Uses SIMD instructions to speed up JPEG compression and decompression
- Generally 2 to 6 times as fast as libjpeg on systems with common CPU architectures
- Includes the traditional libjpeg API and the TurboJPEG API
- Colorspace extensions for 32-bit and big-endian pixel buffers such as RGBX and XBGR
- A full-featured Java interface
- Highly optimized Huffman coding routines that also help on systems without SIMD support
- An ISO/IEC and ITU-T reference implementation of the JPEG standard
