Description
The original version of Notepad that came with Windows is possibly one of the most useful text tools ever created. It’s fast, small, powerful, and devoid of nonsense.
Notepad3 follows up where Notepad2 left off and adds a long list of features while still adhering to the light and practical spirit of the series.
Note: Notepad3 comes in two download formats. You can either install it separately or install it so that it replaces your existing copy of Notepad. It has an open source license, was updated very recently, and it only takes up 2MB of space on your Windows machine. It’s available for Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, and Vista.
It still has a very light digital footprint even though it does a lot more than its predecessors. This Scintilla-based text editor has color based highlighting for visually intuitive text editing. You will have to get used to the color coding system for this feature to become second nature to use- but you’ll be glad when you do, especially if you are someone who works with a lot of text every day.
But color-coded text editing is just the beginning. Notepad3 also does bracket matching, code folding, automatic indentation, convert character encoding between various formats (ASCII, UTF-8, and UTF-16), word auto-completion, newline format conversion (between DOS (CR/LF), Unix (LF), Macintosh (CR) formats), regular expression based find and replace, multiple undo or redo, and bookmarks.
Notepad3 can handle almost any programming task you might want to throw at it. It does syntax support for ASP, assembly language, AutoHotkey, AviSynth, Bash, BAT, C, C++, C#, CMake, CoffeeScript, Common Gateway Interface, Cascading Style Sheets, DIFF, HTML, INF, INI, Java, JavaScript, LaTeX, Lua, NSIS, Pascal, Perl, PHP, Python, REG, Ruby, SQL, Tcl, Visual Basic, VBScript, XHTML, XML, YAML it even has improved support for NFO ANSI art, and more.
Finally, Notepad3 looks like the standard Notepad (delivered in each copy of Microsoft Windows OS) but rather on steroids. If you used Notepad2 or another fork or text editor alternative, try Notepad3, you won't be disappointed.
